LC: Recovering from lost revision horror

Okay, it was only changes to one chapter. (These are the revisions I’m making based on input from my writing group to the first section of the book.)  But still horrifying because this was all the work I had managed to achieve for June, gone in a classic, changes-not-properly-saved screw up.

Took me the past week to re-do that work on chapter 1.  Finally a Starbucks Sunday today so also got chapters 2 and 3 revised. And am partly through chap 4. Had to remove a character’s POV–which so far has meant two pages of new writing, with more to come.

Is this blog helping anyone at this point besides myself? Which I think it still is, at least somewhat.

MB Takes an Entire Month to Rewrite One Freaking 6 1/2-Page Chapter

I just finished rewriting Chapter Fifteen which took me a month. I’ve let myself be distracted by kitchen remodeling and Pinterest a lot. Now that we’re in the middle of said remodel, and now that my entire house is coated in drywall dust, I find myself wanting to escape back into my novel again. Domestic chaos will do that to a girl.

LC Kinda Pathetic As Well…But Also a Milestone Reached

So much (as usual) for meeting a deadline. BUT just finished the final chapter so this draft of Executables is done!!

Well, kind of. Still have to do a quick go-through to fix a few minor details and to incorporate some changes suggested by the critique group for the first 10 chapters.  Since I missed the June 1 deadline, I was hoping to get all this done and the ms handed off to JS before leaving on the exciting family trip to (whoo!) Omaha later this week. Seems extremely unlikely at this point. But maybe I will get a chance to do some work in the hotel room? I think the place may have a coffee shop–perhaps I can disentangle myself from family fun long enough to make some progress.  We will see.

Pathetic

Long time, no hear from MB. It’s go time on the kitchen remodel, so I’m afraid I’m obsessing over how to refinish retro metal sink bases rather than how to get my characters from Iran to eastern China. I do, on occasion, manage to get some work done during my lunch breaks, but it’s slow going. I’ve hit two chapters that have to be scrapped and completely re-written. It’s harder to motivate oneself in those instances, isn’t it?

Ah well, some work is better than none. Maybe if I stick to those 2-page chapters, I’ll chug along faster.
